Information we collect and why
- Website Analytics and Usage Data (No Personal Data Collection Scenario)
When you visit our dashboard, we automatically collect:
- Technical information: IP address (anonymised), browser type, operating system, screen resolution
- Usage data: Pages visited, time spent on pages, click patterns, referral sources
- Device information: Approximate location (country/region level only)
Purpose: To understand how our Quantum Technology Observatory for Policy and Society (QTOPS) is used, improve user experience, and ensure technical security
Lawful Basis: Legitimate interests (improving our public interest research services)

Our observatory displays:
- RAND research: Our own analysis and research findings
- Publicly available data: From sources like OpenAlex, government databases, and academic publications
- Partner data: Datasets purchased from third-party providers (containing no personal data about website visitors)
These data are about research outputs and institutions, not about individual website users.

Data deletion
We do not collect or store any personal data about website visitors beyond anonymised technical and usage information necessary for website analytics and security. As such, we do not hold any personally identifiable information that could be deleted upon request. We will review and respond to all data deletion requests in accordance with our legal obligations under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Data sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. The data displayed on our website is limited to research outputs, institutional information, and publicly available or licensed datasets, none of which contain personal data about website visitors. Anonymised website analytics data may be shared with trusted service providers (such as website hosting or analytics providers) solely for the purposes of website functionality, security, and improvement. All such providers are contractually required to process data in accordance with applicable data protection laws and only for the purposes we specify.
